Project Overview
M. Neils provided executive electrical engineering services for a new 39,800 square foot police headquarters building with holding cells, and 12,400 square foot service building, secured employee, and public parking areas. The firm prepared design-build performance requirements for the facility, conducted peer review of the electrical and telecommunications design documents, and provided construction support services.
The project scope included electrical power, lighting, telecommunications, fire alarm and paging systems. Careful attention to detail was required to ensure compliance with all of the project requirements by the design-build contractor from design through construction. Sustainable design features include significant use of direct and indirect daylighting and a two-story atrium throughout the length of the main building, as well as high-efficiency electrical systems. The lighting design reduces energy consumption by 30 percent, qualifying the facility for a rebate through Pacific Gas & Electric’s “Savings by Design” program. The project was one of the first police facilities in the nation to earn LEED Certification.
