Project Overview
Michael Neils is the electrical engineer of record for the lighting of the Sacramento Tower Bridge, completed in 1989 as part of Sacramento’s sesquicentennial celebration. He also collaborated in the development and implementation of the lighting design, which included mockups for community stakeholders’ approval. The project illuminated the bridge towers using high pressure sodium floodlights. The project also installed compact fluorescent lights to highlight the bridge span superstructure. The new lighting required a separate electrical service to segregate the new lighting from the existing electrical service. The design required CalTrans approval and review by the U.S. Coast Guard.
